🦋 From Overthinking to Inner Calm: Dani's Coaching Transformation with Sarah Tombs

Dani is a brilliant, big-hearted executive assistant in her 40s, living in Oxfordshire – a thoughtful, sensitive woman with huge potential and a deep desire to feel more confident, grounded and at peace in herself.


When she first reached out for coaching, Dani felt stuck, frustrated and confused – “a bit desperate really for help.


She was caught in cycles of overthinking, worry and emotional overload, carrying old stories, mental chatter and other people’s expectations. Even when life looked fine from the outside, inside she felt weighed down, self-critical and unsure of who she really was underneath it all.


She knew she wanted more: more calm, more clarity, more self-trust and a gentler, kinder relationship with herself.


Through our 1:1 coaching together, Dani experienced a profound inner transformation.


She learned practical tools to calm her mind, regulate her emotions and move through anxiety with more ease. She began to understand herself on a deeper level, honour her boundaries and let go of old baggage and mental chatter that no longer served her.

What drew you to work with me in particular?


I felt so aligned. I read the word empowerment – and it was a bit different to what I’d come across before.


I thought also you had qualifications – I looked at your qualifications – and I think I watched your video and your video was quite engaging. I think you said ‘hello lovely’ and I really kind of liked your personality. So I thought, ‘Oh, I could talk to this lady.’


You looked professional. I liked your approach and your style – just your style and the way you were, your profile and the way you were marketing yourself.


As soon as I saw your video and I read a bit about you, I thought, ‘Oh, this is definitely the person I want to speak to.’


You’re a bit younger and therefore I instantly felt that I could connect with you. And you look very feminine – I think your femininity as well. You didn’t have that kind of scary 'psychiatrist' look about you.


I could tell that you were really wearing your femininity in your photos… you’ve got your own sort of unique style. You’re very natural. I can tell that you’ve kind of worked on yourself… and it’s good. It felt like a great fit.



How would you describe our work together?


You're very open and honest and it was like real teamwork. It felt back and forth and just like a real shared experience. I would say you worked very intuitively with me and I felt that you read me really well.


You would often say, ‘Oh, what was going on in your mind then?’ because I’d looked in different directions. You always probed quite a lot, which was good and helped me open up.


Because we were so aligned – interested in similar things – there was definitely that shared values and shared interests, what you and I call alignment.


We both wanted it to work and to get the best outcome. It was a bit more free, less structured at times, which is what I needed, yet sometimes it was structured too, which was great.


Every time we caught up on a call, I felt like I was learning as well.




What did you appreciate about the energy and dynamic in the space?


You reflected myself really well back to me, which a lot of people don’t do.


I suppose just having that awareness of what you’re projecting… it’s another level of self-awareness, isn’t it? And you've got that Sarah, which made all the difference. And also you gave me alot of reassurance, you made me feel validated, which helped my confidence grow.


I feel like you probed more and you ask questions, which made me think more and put the focus on me, which helped me understand what I needed.

You listened and I always felt like I’m being heard.


You have a gentle approach and you haven’t got any barriers, which made me feel safe and at ease to talk and open up to you.




Before we worked together, how were you feeling?


I felt stuck. I definitely felt stuck and frustrated and confused – a bit desperate really for help, I think.




Who are you now because of our work together?


I want to say capable because I feel a lot more capable now and more driven and more relaxed and more courageous.


I feel freer and I think I’m less harsh on myself now. I was very self-critical and actually. So I’m less of my self-critical old self. I'm more confidence and self-assured too!



Can you shared some examples of being more courageous?


I’ve been going to Alpha – I told you about exploring my faith – and I’ve been going to this Alpha group. I’ve been talking very openly basically in a group of strangers. Never would have done that before.  I wouldn't have had the confidence - So it’s very different for me.


I’ve been really feeling my boundaries, kind of really knowing when something’s not right for me and quickly doing something about it – showing my confidence to do that.


I'm being more astute and just trying different things. I never would have tried Zumba before. I would have just been like, ‘Oh no, I have this set mind, I don’t like Zumba.’ Whereas now I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m going to try it because it’s different.’


I’m wanting to try new things all the time and putting myself out there.

Before, I would have felt a bit shy or a bit introverted, where as now, I’m just thinking, ‘Oh, you know, it’s good for me. It helps me grow in self-confidence. So much has changed!




What other tangible changes have you noticed??


I’m definitely more comfortable with spending time on my own. I never would have coped with that before. If I have a difficult day, I do a bit of journaling or unload on paper and just manage myself a lot better.

I manage overthinking and looking after myself – making sure I get sleep and eat healthily and all those kind of things.


Also just understanding myself – that’s huge.


I think people should do it more and more really. I realise I might be a bit ahead of the game on things like that and doing this work with you, on myself – I’m reaping the benefits of it now.


I feel like I’ve got rid of a lot of the old. You helped me shake off a lot of stuff that probably would have stayed with me for a while and I’ve just been able to put it behind me. I feel more present.


I feel a lot more grounded. I feel a lot more normal.

I’m not carrying stuff around with me anymore. I’m able to process things and move on quicker.




How has your calmness and emotional response shifted?


A lot of people at work had fed back on my calmness, how calm and pragmatic I am. I printed off all those emails because I thought, ‘That’s obviously a superpower.’


On a scale of 1 to 10 – 10 being ultra calm and 1 being the complete opposite – I’d probably say I’m up there near 10, now, because of our work together.

Before, I think I worried a lot more. I used to worry and analyse everything and I used to get angry – a lot of anger or frustration. I was probably more on the other end, like a four.


I used to just pretend I didn’t care – that was my way of dealing with it. It wasn’t that I didn’t care, it was just a coping mechanism.


Now I feel I’m able to rationalise my feelings a lot more, because I know myself better. When you know yourself and you understand yourself, you can control yourself and rationalise your reaction and your thinking.


My response to things is different now, because of the work we did and I don’t let people affect me as much. Or if they are impacting me, I start thinking, ‘Why am I feeling this way? What’s the lesson?' I take my power back.




How would you describe Sarah as a person and coach?


I think that you’re very kind. You’ve got quite an endearing way about you.

You don’t think you know it all – you’re very humble and you’re not pushy at all. You make sure that it feels like a safe space. You constantly ask for feedback and you check if things are okay and personalise the work to me.


You’re very conscientious. You come across quite genuine. I don’t feel like this is work for you. I don’t feel like you’ve got this mask on.


I actually felt seen and heard with you. And I think that is the most important thing – you don’t get that all the time.



What would you say to someone considering working with Sarah?


If you’re looking for a listening ear, a safe space to explore and to learn and just to be around more of a feminine energy and feel empowered and have your very own cheerleader and supporter, then Sarah’s the person to go to.


If I needed help again, I would want to come back to you, 100%. I wouldn’t look for anything else. You’re the sort of person I’d like to speak to if I was looking for further career development – you’d help with my motivation and get my mind in the right place.


I’d definitely recommend you to other people!


I’ve spent a lot of money on it, investing in myself - I think it’d be useful for most people just to give themselves that window of time to talk things through and work out where they’re going and what’s going on – why they’re feeling the way they’re feeling – to make sense of all that confusion and get direction again, to take control back as well and not feel like you’re being controlled by life. 🦋 🦋 🦋
