“Sarah’s warmth and wisdom have kept me motivated and confident.”

“Sarah, gently challenges me to grow and celebrates my wins. She's been a key contributor to my professional journey"
Finding the right supervisor is one of the most defining parts of a counsellor’s journey.
It’s about finding a space where you can be honest, reflective, and supported - both personally and professionally.
In my Supervisory Spotlight Series, I'm sharing the story of Jenny, counsellor who has worked with me for more than four years from her student placement years right through to establishing her private practice.
Her story beautifully captures what supervision can look and feel like when it’s safe, nurturing, and expansive.
Finding the right clinical supervisor is about more than ticking a box - it’s about finding a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported.

What drew you to work with Sarah?
“I’ve been attending supervision sessions with Sarah for over four years and I’ve always found them beneficial. Sarah has worked alongside me throughout my student placement years, and after qualifying, I stayed with her as my supervisor while setting up my private practice."
Jenny describes the experience of finding a supervisor who could grow with her through different stages of her counselling career. From the beginning, she recognised the importance of finding someone approachable and grounded someone she could trust to help her develop confidence in her work.
What's Supervision like with Sarah?
“Sarah facilitates our supervision sessions in a very approachable, friendly, and non-judgemental way. I always feel able to be open and honest about how I’m feeling in relation to my client work and any challenges I’m facing.
We celebrate what’s going well, but she also gently challenges me to grow - inviting me to look at my client work from different perspectives.”
For Jenny, supervision isn’t just about bringing clients and case discussions - it’s a space for reflection, growth, and self-awareness. She shared that she values gentle challenge and balanced feedback, which help her build professional resilience and trust in her own judgment.
How would you describe the supervision experience that Sarah offers?
“I’d describe Sarah as a supervisor with an intuitive yet integrative approach. I’ve really appreciated the flexibility of working with her both face-to-face and online since Covid-19. The transition online hasn’t been detrimental at all, Sarah facilitates the space so openly and I still get just as much from our sessions. I've really valued the online space."
Jenny’s experience highlights the importance of flexibility in modern clinical supervision and how connection and depth can still flourish online.
What would you say to other counsellors, therapists or coaches considering supervision with me?
“I’d very much recommend Sarah as a supervisor. She facilitates sessions professionally yet warmly, and you can really sense her passion for the work.”
What impact has supervision with Sarah had on you personally and professionally?
I’m really grateful for the experience of having supervision with Sarah. She’s kept me motivated, accountable, and encouraged me to keep going through some really difficult times.
Sarah’s support has shown up in so many ways from helping me map out goals to recognising strengths I once saw as weaknesses.
She’s gently nudged me to challenge myself and fully engage in personal and professional development.
Sarah has been a key contributor in my professional journey over the last 4–5 years.
I'm so grateful for our work together! Thank you, Sarah.
