🌱Supervision Spotlight: Tracy’s Journey - Bringing Her Whole Self to Supervision and Growing as a Therapist

“The space Sarah facilitated has allowed me to be genuine, to reflect deeply, and grow both as a practitioner and as a person"

“I could bring anything to supervision and know there would be no judgment -it felt completely safe.”

Tracy, an integrative therapist and coach, began working with me for clinical supervision as she neared the end of her training in 2024. Prior to our work together, she had been supporting young people and children in a therapeutic capacity, and was stepping into her role as a newly qualified therapist.

Although Tracy was passionate and capable, she sometimes struggled to fully trust her clinical decisions and bring her authentic self into sessions. She wanted a supervision space where she could develop her clinical skills, explore personal reflections safely, and feel supported in navigating the complexities of client work.

When she found my website, she felt an immediate connection to the authenticity of my approach. Working together, she experienced the power of a supervision space that is BACP-aligned, empathetic, and reflective, helping her grow as a practitioner while supporting her personal development.

From our first session, it was clear that Tracy was committed to her growth, and she was drawn to a supervision approach that felt genuine, warm, and collaborative.

Over the course of our work together, we focused on creating a safe and empathetic space where she could bring her whole self, reflect deeply, and strengthen her confidence as both a practitioner and a person.

Through our supervision, Tracy developed the tools to separate her own experiences from those of her clients, advocate confidently for clients, prioritise self-care, and show up authentically in every session. She gained the reassurance to trust her intuition, take courageous steps in her work, and embrace her professional voice.

Today, Tracy approaches her client sessions with confidence, clarity, and a grounded presence. Her supervision journey has fostered both personal and professional growth, allowing her to be genuine, attentive, and resilient in her practice.

It has been a privilege to collaborate with Tracy, witnessing her transformation and the positive ripple effect she continues to bring to her clients and her own development.

Can you tell us a little bit about you and your work?

I am an integrative therapist and coach, and I’ve been working with you for about a year. I pretty much just came to the end of my training in June, but prior to that, I was working with young people and children in a therapeutic capacity.

What drew you to Supervision with me?

I was looking at quite a few supervisors, and I felt like you were really authentic in the way you wrote your website. I felt like you were speaking to me personally, and that’s what really drew me to working with you. We’ve had such an amazing relationship over this year.

What made the supervision space feel supportive and safe for you?

It felt very much like a holding space - empathetic, warm, and safe. It felt like you were going to be with me on my journey of personal development, developing my clinical skills, and my clinical competency. It felt like I could bring all of myself to supervision, even the things that mirrored my own life, and explore them without judgment.

How did I support you in bringing your whole self and digging deep in the space?

You’re so good at catching my thoughts. You can sense what I’m thinking and bring it into the space, discuss it, and see where it goes. Sometimes it’s playful and curious, which makes it easier to bring even the deepest things. It helped me separate what’s mine from what’s the client’s and move forward in my work.

How has our supervision shaped you as a therapist and as a person?

It’s helped me reflect deeply and stretch my thinking. I can advocate for my clients more confidently, prioritise self-care, and be genuine in the space.

I’ve gained the confidence to be more of myself, to offer resources intuitively, and to show up authentically with my clients.

It’s improved my relationship with myself and with the people I work with.

How would you describe our supervision relationship??

Safe, empathetic, and holding. You provide gentle challenge, and you hold me within that challenge. There’s structure, but it’s flexible and adaptive. I feel supported to bring whatever comes up, and that makes all the difference.

What would you say to another therapist or coach considering supervision with me??

Definitely go for it.

If you want a space where you can bring your whole self, be genuine, and develop your clinical skills, this is it.

Anything else on your mind or in your heart that you want to share?

I feel so grateful for this space and our work together. It’s empathetic, holding, non-judgmental, and inclusive. It’s supported my growth, my development, and the positive ripple effect into my client work. It’s truly been magical.
