"Working with Sarah has helped me grow both personally and professionally."

How Mahek Overcame Self-Doubt and Built Unshakeable Confidence as a Therapist and Coach
How Mahek Overcame Self-Doubt and Built Unshakeable Confidence as a Therapist and Coach

Mahek, a newly qualified therapist, began working with me for clinical supervision in 2024. Prior to working together, as a newly qualified therapist she was struggling with imposter syndrome and self-doubt.

Despite being qualified and having experience in placements, Mahek often found herself second-guessing her abilities and unsure of how to effectively manage client challenges. As a high achiever, she was frustrated by the disconnect between her outward achievements and the internal uncertainty she felt.

From our first session, it was clear that Mahek was deeply committed to her growth, but she needed support in building confidence and overcoming the fear of judgment. Over the course of our work together, we focused on empowering her to bring her authentic self to her practice.

Through supervision, Mahek learned how to tackle feelings of stuckness, build her professional boundaries, and cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness.

Fast forward to today, Mahek has not only overcome her self-doubt but has developed a strong, grounded presence in her work. She now approaches her sessions with clients with confidence, authenticity, and clarity.

The transformation has been profound: Mahek is no longer overwhelmed by imposter syndrome, and she has embraced her unique strengths as a therapist - knowing that she is good enough.

Her increased confidence has not only enhanced her client relationships but also helped her find a renewed sense of purpose and balance in her personal and professional life.

It was a pleasure to be Mahek's Supervisor and collaborate together in Supervison.

What challenges were you facing before working with Sarah?

Before working with Sarah, I was struggling with self-doubt. As a newly qualified therapist, I didn’t feel confident in my decisions or in how I was working with my clients. I wasn’t sure if I was saying the right things, or if I was helping my clients in the right way. There was a constant nagging doubt about whether I was being "perfect," and that made me question my abilities. These doubts and fears made me feel stuck, both personally and professionally.

How did Sarah's clinical supervision support you?

Sarah’s supervision provided a safe, supportive, and empathetic space. I could bring anything - whether it was a personal challenge or something I was struggling with in my client work. I never had to think twice about whether something was appropriate to bring up in supervision. I felt so comfortable and held in that space, which made all the difference. Sarah’s feedback helped me tackle my doubts, and she helped me develop confidence in my work, both as a therapist and as a person.

What specific outcomes have you experienced?

Since working with Sarah, I have gained a lot more confidence in my abilities as a therapist. I no longer feel unsure about the impact I’m having on my clients. I’ve learned how to deal with "stuckness," both in my own process and in my work with clients. Instead of being paralysed by those moments of uncertainty, I now know how to use them as opportunities for growth and I have add lots of ways of working into my therapuetic "tool kit". I learnt alot from Sarah.

This shift in mindset has allowed me to have a more fulfilling and effective practice, and it’s helped me in my personal life too. I also feel more confident in my boundaries and have gained clarity about what drains me, which has helped me improve my self-care.

What would you say to others considering clinical supervision with Sarah?

If you're considering working with Sarah, I would say you’re in safe hands. Sarah’s approach is incredibly nurturing and supportive. She helps you bring the whole of yourself to the process, which is something that really stood out to me. I never felt judged or like I couldn’t share something personal. Sarah has a great way of blending empathy and professional insight, helping you to see your growth and develop new ways to approach challenges in your work. Her supervision will help you build confidence and clarity in both your personal and professional life.

Anything else you want to share about your experience of supervision with Sarah?

Honestly, I’m just incredibly grateful for the whole experience. Over the year that we worked together, I feel like I've not only grown as a therapist but also as a person. The supervision has had a huge impact on my self-awareness and has allowed me to develop both personally and professionally. I now feel much more in control of my work and my boundaries.

This journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I feel much more aligned with who I am as a therapist.
