“Finding a supervisor who truly understands you and allows you to bring all the messy, raw parts of your work is vital.”

“I always leave supervision feeling uplifted, energised, and ready to engage fully with my clients."
Mim is a qualified counsellor and therapist, who began working with me during her private practice journey, shortly after establishing her business.
With a deeply integrative approach and a passion for supporting adults online, Mim wanted supervision that was not only professional and structured but also safe, flexible, and aligned with her authentic self.
Before working together, Mim had experienced challenges in supervision, including feeling restricted or judged. She wanted a space where she could fully bring herself, including the messy, raw, and challenging aspects of her work.
Over our time together, we co-created a collaborative, supportive supervision space that nurtures both professional growth and personal development, allowing her to confidently expand her practice and serve clients in alignment with her authentic self.
In this Supervisory Spotlight, Mim shares how she has learned to embrace her unique strengths, celebrate her wins and approach her client work with renewed curiosity, confidence, and clarity.
It has been a privilege to collaborate with Mim and I cannot wait for this next year of our work together.

Can you tell us a little bit about you and your counsellor Journey?
I’m Mim and I graduated five years ago and set up my private practice about three and a half years ago. I work predominantly online with adults and use an integrative approach, exploring different ways of working to find what works best for each client. I’ve been drawn to counselling since I was young - naturally observing, supporting, mediating for friends and wanting to understand people and help them, as well as myself.
What drew you to want to work with me as your Supervisor?
I had a bad experience with supervision before I met you, which made me think carefully about what I really needed from a supervisor.
When I came across you, Sarah, everything felt aligned - safe, supportive, and energising.
From the first meeting, I felt a deep sense of relief, knowing this was the right fit. Finding a supervisor who truly understands you and allows you to bring all the messy, raw parts of your work is vital, and I felt that immediately with you.
What has it been like to bring your whole self to supervision, including the challenging parts of your work?
It’s been incredible. I can bring the messy bits, the mistakes, the things I struggle with and it’s always safe to do so.
You’ve created a space where being human is celebrated, not judged.
The more we can be ourselves in supervision, the more we can be authentic with our clients. That authenticity has helped me attract aligned clients and empower them to be their true selves.
How has our supervision together impacted your growth as a counsellor and therapist??
Initially, it was about unlearning false beliefs I’d held during training and past supervision. Over time, I’ve gained freedom, flexibility, and confidence.
Each session is alive and responsive, never rigid. The collaborative nature, curiosity, and gentle challenge have helped me explore my client work from multiple perspectives, giving me energy and clarity to continue my practice confidently.
What stands out to you about how I’ve supported you and about how we've worked together?
The warmth and desire to connect are remarkable. I feel seen, valued, and understood.
The challenge you bring is considerate and safe, which allows me to explore difficult areas without fear of criticism.
I always leave supervision feeling uplifted, energised, and ready to engage fully with my clients. It’s a balance of warmth, curiosity, and challenge that makes me feel truly held.
What would you say to other counsellors or therapists considering supervision with me?
If you’re feeling drawn to Sarah, take the step and reach out. Supervision is about having a safe, curious, and collaborative space where you can bring all parts of yourself.
That space transforms not only your work with clients but also your confidence and growth as a therapist. You won’t regret it!
Is there anything else on your heart or in your mind, that you'd like to share?
I'm just so grateful. I always come away from our time together feeling, seen, heard, valued. It feels such a safe space and I don't have to worry about anything I have shared.
I can bring the messy parts of the work; the bits i'm struggling with and I'm so grateful for that because the work we do is hard. The work we do is wonderful and amazing, but it is hard and requires a lot of us as people.
So, I think having that right fit, with the right person for supervision is so vitally important. So I am so glad I was able to find you and work with you. It's made such a positive impact on my work but also me as a person too.
Thank you Sarah.
